Ryan Sanada, Director of Legal and Government Affairs. Ryan helps HEC members navigate their way through the complex set of Hawaii and Federal labor and employment laws so they can stay compliant with their legal requirements and focus on running their businesses. For employment-related matters, he has adopted the motto “the best defense is a good offense” and believes most employment lawsuits can be avoided if companies are proactive, act responsibly, and seek proper guidance or counseling when confronted with a workplace issue. Prior to joining HEC, he was in private practice for 10 years where he represented national and local companies in labor and employment disputes and regularly advised businesses on a wide array of workplace matters. He also previously served as a legal consultant to the House Labor Committee at the Hawaii state legislature.
Ryan received his B.A. from the University of Puget Sound and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Hawaii, William S. Richardson School of Law. He is currently a member of the Workplace Environment & Competitiveness Committee for the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii.
