A bill aimed at requiring private contractors and service providers receiving government funds to pay workers a “living wage” is likely to be pushed in the upcoming session of the State Legislature according to the Hawaii Democratic Party website.Legislation that would make it easier for employees to unionize, and opposition to “anti-union laws” such as right-to-work statutes which prevent employees from being forced to join a union will also be supported, says the website. Other proposed legislation includes a “worker retention” measure which would require the retention of the incumbent workforce by a new employer in the event of a change in management due to a sale, change in management contract or lease.
