The Dept. of Homeland Security has issued a new expiration date for the Form I-9. The current version of the form was set to expire on June 30, 2008, but has been revised with a new expiration date of 6/30/09. Other than the revision date, there are no substantive differences to the form itself. Employers should use the Form I-9 with the 6/30/09 expiration date.
DHS plans to amend regulations governing the types of acceptable identity and employment authorization documents that employees may present to their employers for the I-9 in 2009, according to the agency's semiannual regulatory agenda and its United Agenda for Fall 2008.
