Employers should be using the current Form I-9 (Rev. 06/05/07) until April 3, 2009. This form was to be superseded by a revised form on Feb. 2 changing the types of acceptable identity and employment authorization documents and receipts that employees present to employers, however, the implementation of the new form was halted by President Obama’s order last month freezing certain pending federal regulations.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services I-9 web page indicates that the revised form is effective after April 3. HEC will be offering a future session on the provisions of the revised form and what it means for employers; members will be alerted on the date and time of this session.
