According to a recent Human Rights Campaign Foundation report, 57 percent of Fortune 500 companies offer domestic partner benefits, and the larger employers are increasingly extending COBRA, FMLA and retirement benefits to gay and transgendered employees and their families.
The Foundation reports that 18 of the top 100 Fortune-ranked companies now provide transgender-inclusive health insurance, compared to just one in 2001, and 60 percent have protections based on gender identity. Of the Fortune 500 businesses, 85 percent now have protections based on sexual orientation, compared to 51 percent in 2000, and 35 percent now have protections based on gender identity.
