More Than Half of U.S. Workers Report Worried Work Atmosphere

More than half of U.S. workers said their work atmosphere felt worried due to the economy, according to a ComPsych survey. ComPsych Corporation is a provider of employee assistance programs and, behavioral health, wellness, work-life and crisis intervention services.

Employees were asked: What is your work atmosphere like right now, in light of the economy? According to the survey, 16 percent said "panicky"; 39 percent said "somewhat worried"; 23 percent said "business as usual"; 14 percent said "cautiously optimistic"; and 8 percent said "very hopeful."

"Workers are shouldering more work due to layoffs, and finding it difficult not to be distracted by future uncertainties," says ComPsych CEO Dr. Richard A. Chaifetz. "We have seen a record number of calls for on-site counselors due to layoffs as well as requests for ongoing stress management counseling."
