Increased mandates from federal and state governments to require industries, especially the sensitive ones, to step up their background checks of applicants, is one of the top ten background checking trends for 2009, says attorney and consultant Lester Rosen.

Rosen reports that the other trends will include: increasing focus on privacy and accuracy; “second chance” laws for ex-offenders; increased litigation under consumer protection laws; and the use of social networking sites.
