Scaffold Accidents, Falls, Hazard Communication Among Top 10 OSHA Violations

Worker Accident

The preliminary top 10 most-frequent workplace safety violations for 2009 includes improper scaffolding, lack of fall protection, and deficient hazard communication, reports the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

OSHA provided the preliminary list as part of a presentation at the National Safety Council’s annual Congress & Expo. The number of top 10 violations has increased almost 30 percent over the same time period in 2008, the NSC says.

In addition to the top three violations, the other most frequent violations involved respiratory protection; safeguarding employees from the unexpected startup of machinery or the release of hazardous energy during service or maintenance activities; electrical hazard exposure; forklift accidents; and improper safeguards on machinery.
