U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has issued a fact sheet for employers on accepting employment documents for temporary protected status beneficiaries.
Temporary Protected Status is an immigration benefit granted by Homeland Security to eligible individuals in the U.S. who are nationals or residents of a country that has been designated for TPS due to on-going armed conflict, environmental disaster or other extraordinary and temporary conditions that prevent such nationals from safely returning to their homelands. TPS is granted to eligible individuals from the designated countries for time-limited periods, depending on the length of the country designation or an extension of that designation.
USCIS has also revised its Employment Authorization Document or Form I-766, to incorporate the addition of a machine-readable zone on the back of the card.
This follows its redesign to the Permanent Resident Card - commonly known as the “Green Card” - to incorporate several major new security features. USCIS has also released a Q & A on the revised green card.
The updates are part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to deter immigration fraud.
