Doing business in Hawaii is not the same as anywhere else. Significantly influenced by three cultures - East, West and Polynesia - failure to understand and embrace Hawaii’s cultural nuances and island style behaviors could lead to rejection, ineffectiveness and failure. The sooner newcomers understand this unique island environment and are able to adapt, the greater their chances for successfully leading their teams.
Leadership Island Style® for Newcomers is a must-do workshop for anyone embarking on a business career that is new to Hawaii.
Born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii and having spent the last three decades helping leaders and organizations succeed in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific Islands, Glenn Furuya will teach participants how to navigate their new island home and business climate by learning and understanding:
- The historical roots and behaviors of island people.
- Key make-or-break island style virtues that contribute to positive team relations and successful outcomes.
- Cultural mistakes to avoid, which could result in early loss of endorsement and the inability to effectively recover.
Participants will also hear from a co-facilitator that has successfully made this transition, who will share their own personal experience relocating from the mainland to Hawaii.
Time will also be provided for open discussion and participant Q&A.
Upon conclusion of this eye-opening and light-hearted workshop, participants will leave knowing how to:
- Avoid unnecessary drama
- Build trust
- Gain respect and endorsement
