The Internal Revenue Service has announced that the maximum allowed pre-tax mass transit benefit is reduced from $245 per month to $130 per month in 2014. The maximum allowed pre-tax parking benefit will increase from $245 to $250 in 2014. The reduction in the mass transit benefit resulted from the expiration of the increased statutory limit put in place last year by the American Taxpayer Relief Act. While employers can choose to keep providing employees with amounts beyond the 2014 statutory limit, any amounts exceeding the $130 cap will be ineligible for the payroll tax benefit.
