President Obama announces Plan to Raise Federal Contractor Minimum Wage to $10.10 per Hour

Posted Thursday, January 30, 2014 7:05 pm

During his State of the Union Address, President Obama announced plans to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour for those working on new federal contracts for services.  The President will sign an Executive Order covering workers performing services or construction who are getting paid less than $10.10 per hour, with the intent of boosting productivity and the quality of services provided to the government.  During the Address, the President also expressed support for the Harkin-Miller Bill, which proposes increasing the federal minimum wage for all workers to $10.10 per hour.  It remains to be seen if this effort will succeed as it moves through Congress.
