USCIS Launches Updated E-Verify Website
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) launched a new website last month to provide updated support for the E-Verify program. The new website provides information about E-Verify and Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. It allows employers to enroll in E-Verify directly or access existing accounts.
The agency also announced a series of E-Verify enhancements that were made to increase efficiency and accuracy and otherwise improve the user’s E-Verify experience. The enhancements include providing real-time feedback on errors, removing unnecessary pages and steps in the case creation process, updates to the process to improve the initial match rate, and reducing the steps needed to close a case.
E-Verify is a free, user-friendly internet-based system that employers can access anytime using a web browser. Employers that use E-Verify find that most employees are confirmed as work-authorized instantly or within 24 hours. The system, which has nearly 800,000 enrolled employers, compares information from an employee’s Form I-9 to records available to the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to verify authorization to work in the U.S.
