HEC Provides Highlights for Employment Bills Introduced During 2019 Legislative Session

The Hawaii Employers Council has released its members-only Legislative Highlights article that discusses several employment-related measures that were introduced during the 2019 legislative session.  This white paper covers 10 different areas of law that may be affected during this year's session. 

Specifically, the topics discussed in the Legislative Highlights article include (1) minimum wage, (2) notice of work schedules, (3) employment discrimination, (4) equal pay and pay transparency, (5) workers' compensation, (6) confidentiality of sexual harassment claims, (7) Hawaii Family Leave Law, (8) social media privacy, (9) paid sick leave and (10) recreational marijuana.  As session progresses, HEC will continue to monitor and report on bills that may be of interest to employers doing business in Hawaii.

This article discusses two proposed rules for which employers must be prepared, which will (1) increase the salary level thresholds for determining an exempt employee and (2) change the regular rate of pay calculation for overtime.
