The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced on May 20, 2025, that the 2024 EEO-1 Component 1 Data Collection is open, running from May 20, 2025 through June 24, 2025. Eligible employers must file their 2024 EEO-1 Component 1 report by June 24, 2025, or will be out of compliance with EEO-1 filing obligations.
As a reminder, generally, private employers who employ at least 100 employees and federal contractors who employ at least 50 employees and hold at least $50,000 in government contracts must report employee data, including employee’s job categories, race/ethnicity, and gender, annually with the EEOC.
Other things to note include:
- If an employer meets the employee threshold at any time during the fourth quarter of 2024, the employer cannot select a different snapshot period to avoid filing requirements.
- The data collection only allows the selection of male and female. Non-binary is no longer an option.
- Voluntary self-reporting by employees is the preferred method to gather EEO-1 data. Members may refer to our Sample EEO-1 Voluntary Self Identification Form for an example of a self-reporting form. If an employee declines to self-identify, employers may rely on employment records or observer identification.
