HR Bootcamp (In-Person at HEC)
August 20 & 21, 2026, 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
The HR Bootcamp provides an introduction to learning fundamental HR concepts to help attendees successfully start a career as an HR professional in Hawaii. These courses are designed for new HR professionals with little or no HR experience, or for professionals new to HR. Attendees will learn HR fundamentals in a supportive, cohort environment and have an opportunity to build professional relationships with other "new to HR" professionals.
Day 1, Thursday, August 20, 2026, 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Welcome to HR Bootcamp! We will cover the fundamental aspects of key employment and wage & hour laws, including non-discrimination laws, Title VII protections, disability laws, and wage & hour regulations. The session will also cover the hiring process, from job descriptions and postings to recruiting, interviewing, and crafting offer letters. Additionally, we'll explore effective onboarding strategies and review common employee benefits.
Day 2, Friday, August 21, 2026, 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
We will provide an overview of employee leave laws, including FMLA, HFLL, USERRA, and other types of leave, to help you manage employee leave and benefits effectively. The session will also cover performance management, performance improvement plans, and discipline. We will review how to address employee complaints, conduct investigations, and manage employee separations. Additionally, we will discuss how HR professionals contribute to making an organization an employer of choice and share insights on the potential uses of AI in HR.
