Description for the 8 Courses in this Series:

The Fundamentals of Supervision courses provide a practical introduction to the key knowledge and skills needed to effectively lead and manage a team. Whether you are stepping into a supervisory role for the first time or looking to refresh and strengthen your foundational leadership approach, this series offers valuable insights and tools to support your success as a supervisor.



Registration is for the full 8-course series only. Individual course registration is not available for this special in-person experience.

1) Supervision 101

Wednesday, July 1, 2026   9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
This course focuses on the foundation needed to be an effective, people-focused leader. Attendees will learn about the core responsibilities of being a supervisor, how to build relationships with their employees using emotional intelligence, and how to help inspire their employees to be motivated and engaged.

2) Introduction to Employment Law

Wednesday, July 1, 2026   11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Lunch will be provided)
This program provides a general overview and understanding of the federal and state laws that have the biggest impact on supervisors and their ability to make employment-related decisions.

3) Leading Generations in the Workplace 

Wednesday, July 8, 2026   9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
You will learn about the challenges and benefits of the varying generational styles and the strategies to adopt as a leader to engage, motivate, and empower your team to practice inclusivity. Through real-world case studies and interactive exercises, supervisors will learn how to vary their communication style to meet the needs of the individual, enhance collaboration, and unlock the full potential of their workforce.

4) Preventing Workplace Harassment

Wednesday, July 8, 2026   11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Lunch will be provided)
This course is designed to help supervisors take a proactive approach in preventing harassment from occurring within their organizations. Attendees will learn what harassment is and the impact it has, as well as how to create a harassment-free workplace by cultivating a respectful work culture amongst their team. Additionally, they will learn how to identify harassment and gain insight into what their responsibilities are for handling harassment-related issues and complaints.

5) Managing Conflict in the Workplace

Wednesday, July 15, 2026   9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
This course will cover essential skills and strategies to equip supervisors in handling workplace conflicts effectively. Participants will learn to identify, address, and resolve conflicts within their teams through an in-depth exploration of communication techniques, mediation strategies, and other proactive measures.

6) Interviewing & Selecting

Wednesday, July 15, 2026   11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Lunch will be provided)
Attendees will learn the techniques to successfully prepare for and conduct an interview, including what to look for on an application form, how to ask appropriate job-related questions, and what questions to avoid that could be considered unlawful. Attendees will have an opportunity to create interview questions and practice the concepts taught in class.

7) Building Employee Performance

Wednesday, July 22, 2026   9:00 - 11:00 a.m. 
This class focuses on providing supervisors with practical tools they can use to not only build but also maintain and grow employee performance. Topics discussed will include the benefits of managing performance, what challenges employees might face with performance, and how to effectively manage performance.

8) Appraising Performance: An Ongoing Process

Wednesday, July 22, 2026   11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Lunch will be provided)
This course expands from the Building Employee Performance course to instruct supervisors on how to appraise the performance that they have invested in managing. Attendees will learn the logistics behind measuring and evaluating performance by finding evidence of performance through an understanding of job duties and responsibilities, how to effectively prepare and conduct the appraisal meeting, as well as how to provide the sort of feedback and development plans that will motivate employees to realize their potential.

Registration Fees:

Members: $520 per person
Non-Members: $1,080 per person

*Lunch will be provided. You will have the option to select a vegetarian meal during registration.

APPLY FOR ETF: 

Important ETF Registration Instructions – Please follow these steps before registering for the ETF 50% subsidy:

  1. Email HEC at [email protected] or click the "Get ETF Code" link below to request your special ETF registration code (for the discounted rate) and the required ETF Forms pre-filled by HEC.
  2. Use the ETF registration code to register each employee for the series and pay 50% of the total cost for the series to complete the registration.
  3. Complete the ETF Forms for each employee attending
    1. Employer Referral Agreement
    2. Course Registration Agreement
  4. Submit the Course Registration Agreement Form to [email protected]and HEC will complete the Training Vendor portion of Section IV of the form and send the form back to you.
  5. Mail, Fax, or email the two completed forms to your local ETF Office by June 17, 2026.

Note: If your ETF is not approved by the State ETF Office before July 1, 2026, you will be required to pay the remaining 50% of the total cost of the series before taking any of the courses in the series.

HEC Members: $520 ($260 with ETF)
Non-Members: $1,080 ($540 with ETF)

Registration Deadline:

Registration will close at 6:30 AM on the day before the start of the series.

Cancellation and Class Switching Policy
Cancellations must be made 7 days before the class date to receive a refund. 
There will be no refunds for No Shows.

 

Digital Certificates of Completion and Badges

Learners who complete all courses in this series within a 12-month period will receive a digital Certificate of Completion and badge to celebrate their achievement. By registering for this series, you agree to allow HEC to release your name and email address to a third-party digital credentialing service (Certifier) to issue your certificate and badge to you via email. If you do not want a Certificate of Completion or badge, please send notification to [email protected] prior to completing the final course in the series.
