This highly engaging 2-part workshop is designed to take participants into a deeper dive regarding the world of diversity and disability as it relates to the workplace.
Act 1 -
An Employer Engagement Program:
The Key to Cultivating Workforce Inclusion for People with Disabilities
Heidi Dirkse-Graw, MS, CRC, LPC will share how Amplify!, a replicable and cutting-edge employer engagement initiative is harnessing the power of community in Portland, Oregon by bringing employers and partners together to be inspired and equipped in the space of workforce inclusion for job seekers and employees with disabilities.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify what successful employers want when they envision workforce inclusion for PWD
- Identify problems/barriers/solutions to cultivating workforce inclusion for PWD
- Learn about the philosophy, “We are Stronger Together.”
- Identify the core components of an effective employer engagement initiative/program.
Act 2 -
Disability Inclusion in the Workplace:
A Requirement for Future Success
Anita Lee Wright will share how employers are leveraging the knowledge and passion of employees to change the culture and build a disability inclusive workplace. We all need to explore alternatives that increase our options for hiring and retaining a skilled workforce. Through the avenue of employee resource groups, employees are engaged in networking and mentoring, professional development, community outreach, business impact initiatives, and recruitment and retention to grow to business.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn about the value of Employee Resource Groups for diversity inclusion, and more specifically disability inclusion
- Learn how engagement in Employee Resource Groups impacts the hiring, promotion, and retention of PWD
- Learn about education and training that can change the culture of your workplace to be more inclusive of PWD

About Our Speakers:
Heidi Dirkse-Graw, MS, CRC, LPC is President/CEO of Dirkse Counseling and Consulting, Inc. (www.dirksecc.com). She founded the company in 1997 and has devoted her career to helping bridge the gap between job seekers with disabilities and employers. She is an active member of the State of Oregon Rehabilitation Council where she has held the position of Vice Chair and Business Chair. In early 2017, Heidi and her team at Dirkse CC created Amplify! (www.amplifysuccess.org ) in partnership with several other collaborators to raise awareness and promote disability workplace inclusion in Portland, Oregon. Heidi is passionate about sharing this program and the results with other communities who also want to see change.
Anita Lee Wright is a Manager of Business Development and champion of disability inclusion at Northrop Grumman, a leading global security company providing innovative systems, products and solutions in autonomous systems, cyber, and modernization to customers worldwide. Since 2007 she has been engaging with executive leadership, business development and all functional organizations within Northrop Grumman and the community to build a diverse workforce, inspire innovation, and grow the business. Her commitment to workforce engagement is highlighted by her leadership in the development and sustainment of diverse employee resources groups, especially the collaboration across all on disability inclusion.
In 2017 Northrop Grumman received the Employee Resource Group of the year from the US Business Leadership Network/Disability:IN and in 2018 Northrop Grumman received the most prestigious Employer of the Year award from the national organization, Disability:In. Anita will broaden your view to strengthen disability inclusion in your workplace, workforce and marketplace.
