Building a Skills-Based Workforce: Strategic Hiring & Development – Hawaii Island (Waimea)
Hawaii’s workplaces are evolving, and so is the way we think about talent. This interactive workshop invites leaders, HR professionals, and managers to shift from outdated, traditional job-based approaches to a skills-first mindset to create opportunity, build internal mobility, and strengthen organizational resilience across our islands.
Why Attend
When we focus on what people can do—not just the titles they hold—we uncover untapped potential within our teams and communities. This session explores how to identify, hire, and grow talent based on skills and capabilities, helping organizations across Hawaii attract and retain the right people for the work ahead.
What You'll Gain
By the end of this session, participants will:
- Understand what’s driving our move toward skills-based work.
- Identify the benefits and challenges of implementing a skills-based model.
- Map roles to skills using a practical, hands-on framework.
- Redesign hiring practices to focus on capabilities and potential.
- Integrate learning and career development through skill transparency and mobility.
- Develop an actionable roadmap to pilot skills-based practices within their organization.
Why It Matters
Hawaii organizations that invest in skills-based hiring and development are creating more agile and sustainable workforces. This workshop will give you the mindset, tools, and inspiration to put skills—and people—at the center of how we hire and grow talent across our communities.
