Reminder: Employers must provide Notice of Health Exchanges to Current Employees prior to October 1

Published Thursday, August 29, 2013 7:53 pm

Employers are required to provide all employees (including part-time workers) with notice of health exchanges no later than October 1, 2013.

Notices must also be provided to new hires at the time of hiring beginning October 1, 2013, but notices provided to new hires within 14 days of their start will be treated as complying with this requirement. The notices may be provided by hand-delivery to individual employees, or by first-class mail, or electronically, if the employer satisfies the DOL's electronic delivery safe-harbor requirements at 29 CFR 2520.104b-1(c). The DOL issued a Model Notice for employers providing employer-sponsored health coverage. For more information about this notice and employer obligations, please review the DOL Technical Release 2013-02 at: www.dol.gov/ebsa/newsroom/tr13-02.html.
