Kauai County is forecasted to have the highest industry expansion rate between 2010 and 2020, according to a report released by the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations last week.

Kauai's projected expansion rate of 15.4% is followed by Maui County (15.1%), Hawaii County (14.8%) and Honolulu County (10.5%). Industries projected to be significant contributors to growth during the projection period include construction, professional and business services, trades/transportation/utilities, education and health services, and hospitality.

The DLIR's occupational projections show that construction and extraction occupations have the highest anticipated growth rates in Honolulu County and Hawaii County at 19.5% and 23.2% respectively. Maui County and Kauai County are expected to see the most growth in transportation and material moving occupations at 24% and 23.9% respectively. Service occupations will generate the biggest numerical job increase and are anticipated to generate the most total annual job openings during the projection period.
