HEC President and CEO Clayton Kamida outlined plans to expand compensation services and e-learning opportunities to be offered by the Council at HEC's 70th Annual Meeting at the Halekulani Hotel on November 21, 2013.
Responding to member interest in developing and refining compensation programs, HEC will hire a Compensation Consultant to provide support in this area. The Council is also exploring opportunities to provide members with more webinar and desktop training options in 2014. The next News Digest will have the full President's report to the members.
The Annual Meeting also featured a panel discussion on "Real Leadership Lessons: How to Manage Change" featuring Kim Gennaula, President and CEO of Aloha United Way, Lance Wilhelm, Senior Vice President and Area Manager with Kiewit Building Group, and Eric Yeaman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hawaiian Telcom. The panel was moderated by Dan Boylan, Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Hawaii ? West Oahu. During the discussion, panelists shared that identifying values and building culture is an important component of any organization's success, and that leaders must be prepared to address the fact that the priorities of many workers are shifting toward finding a work-life balance. The panelists also shared the importance of trusting one's instincts as a leader, as one may often be called to make decisions with imperfect information.
