DLIR provides insight into Prepaid Health Compliance in the Age of ACA

Published Monday, December 16, 2013 5:07 pm

The Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations recently offered guidance for small businesses with questions on their health insurance compliance obligations.

According to the DLIR, the announcement by the federal government about the delay of the portion of the Affordable Care Act for small businesses has caused confusion regarding the obligation of small business employers in Hawaii. The DLIR reminds all employers that they must still comply with the Hawaii Prepaid Health Care Act and must provide health care insurance for their employees who work at least 20 hours a week.

If your current coverage is ending as of December 31, 2013, you must obtain coverage (either renewing your current plan or purchasing a new qualified health plan) effective January 1, 2014. Most health care issuers will accept payment up until the end of the year.

To get tax credits, you must purchase your health coverage through the Hawaii Health Connector. Call (877) 628-5076 or email support@hawaiihealthconnector.com to get assistance in signing up for coverage.
