OSHA launching Program to reduce Retail Sector Injuries in the Pacific

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has announced plans to launch a local emphasis program in Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands.  This means that OSHA will inspect retail facilities in Hawaii and the Pacific Islands and territories to identify and evaluate hazards.  Random inspections will occur at targeted retail sites include clothing stores, department stores, general merchandise stores and other retailers.  Issues that retail employers should address include electrical hazards, unsafe merchandise handling, transportation hazards, fire hazards, exposure to harmful substances, or improper design, construction and maintenance of exit routes.
