Employment Cost Index Data indicates increases in Total Compensation for Civilian Workers

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that compensation costs for civilian workers increased 0.3 percent, seasonally adjusted, for the first quarter of 2014.  Wages and salaries increased 0.3 percent, and benefits increased 0.4 percent.  This reflects a total increase of 1.8 percent in compensation costs for civilian workers over the 12-month period ending March 2014.  Compensation costs for private industry workers increased 1.7 percent over the year ending March 2014, with a range of increases that varied by occupational groups.  Service occupation compensation costs increased 1.1 percent, while management, professional and related occupational groups increased 1.9 percent.
