Deductions from Employee Wages

Published Thursday, August 28, 2014 8:28 pm

Hawaii employers are prohibited from making deductions from employee wages for fines, cash shortages in a common register used by two or more people, or replacement costs for the breakage or loss of company property.  In order to make other deductions from wages, an employee must provide written authorization for the deduction.  In September, we encourage employers to review and update their payroll deduction authorization form and audit employee files to ensure that authorization forms are present for each employee who has given approval of wage deductions.
