DOL awards Hawaii $500,000 Worker Misclassification Grant

Published Friday, September 26, 2014 7:37 pm

To support initiatives to improve worker misclassification detection and enforcement initiatives in unemployment insurance programs, the United States Department of Labor (DOL) has awarded more than $10 million in grants to 19 states.  The state of Hawaii was awarded $500,000, the maximum grant available under the competitive grant award process.  The funds are earmarked for initiatives focused on increasing Hawaii's ability to identify instances where employers improperly classify employees as independent contractors or fail to report wages paid to workers.  Such initiatives may include employer education and enhancement of the state's employer audit program.
