Productivity Increases in Third Quarter of 2014, according to BLS

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported that nonfarm business sector labor productivity increased at a 2.0 percent seasonally adjusted annual rate during the third quarter of 2014.  Output increased 4.4 percent and hours worked increased 2.3 percent.  Compared to the third quarter of 2013, productivity rose 0.9 percent, output rose 3.0 percent and hours worked increased 2.1 percent.

 

Productivity in the manufacturing sector increased 3.2 percent in the third quarter of 2014, with output increasing 4.1 percent and hours worked increasing 0.8 percent. This represents an increase of 2.8 percent in manufacturer productivity since the third quarter of 2013, with output increasing 4.4 percent and hours worked increasing 1.5 percent during that period.
