HEC President Gives 2015 Annual Report

On November 19, 2015, Clayton Kamida gave the 72nd annual report of the Hawaii Employers Council's 2015 activities.  Clayton reported that HEC experienced both successes and challenges in 2015.  Our new compensation consulting services has proven to be a valuable resource to members, thanks to the efforts of Cathy Keaulani, Manager of Research and Compensation Services.  Members also appreciated our new all-in-one employment law poster service and the availability of online training through our partnership with BizLibrary.  Through our national affiliation with the Employer Associations of America, we became alliance partners with the HR Certification Institute (HRCI), which offers PHR, SPHR, and GPHR certifications for Human Resources Professionals.  Our new alliance with HRCI enables HR professionals employed by member companies to receive a number of valuable benefits, including discounts on certification exams, and additional credits towards recertification.

One of the largest challenges HEC faced in 2015 was the threat of disruption of services because of Rail construction.  The Rail's path runs directly behind of our Waiwai Loop property.  As best as we can currently determine, demolition activity and utility relocation in our areas is likely to begin in mid-2016.  The constitution timetable has been a moving target, making contingency planning difficult.  As Rail construction gets closer, we will be making plans to temporarily relocate training to a suitable venue.

As part of HEC's strategic planning for the future, the Council is committed to increasing the scope and quality of services to members.  We will be devoting resources to expanding Affirmative Action ("AAP") services for federal contractors, and increasing training offerings on topics such as organizational development and management/leadership training.  We are also continuing to pursue non-dues based revenue streams, which we hope will enable us to minimize future dues increases.

Our goal remains to constantly improve the services we provide for your membership.  We are always striving to "go the extra mile" for our members.  On behalf of the Board and staff, thank you for your continued support of HEC.
