DOL Announces Plans for New FMLA Poster and Employer Guidebook

Published Friday, April 29, 2016 2:51 pm

The Department of Labor (DOL) announced plans to publish a revised Family and Medical Leave Act poster that has been reorganized for clarity.  The new poster has not yet been released.   Because it will not make substantive changes, the DOL reports that employers will still be able to use the current poster at their discretion.

The agency has also published a new guide to assist employers in administering their FMLA programs.  "The Employer's Guide to the Family and Medical Leave Act" provides employers with "essential information about the FMLA, including information about employers' obligations under the law and the options available to employers in administering leave under the FMLA."  Topics addressed include covered employers and notice requirements, details on employee eligibility and qualifying reasons for leave, best practices related to certification, leave management and more.
