Nationwide unemployment rate declined to 4.7% in May, down 0.3 percentage point as compared to April, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on June 3. Nonfarm payroll employment saw a slight increase, with the addition of about 38,000 jobs during the month of May.
By comparison, the State of Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations reported that Hawaii's unemployment rate held steady at 3.2% in May. Statewide, 665,750 were employed and 22,300 unemployed in May for a total seasonally adjusted labor force of 688,100.
