Three New Employment Laws and Their Implications

Published Tuesday, September 29, 2020 2:30 pm

On September 15, Governor Ige signed three employment bills with significant implications for employers:

  • Act 17 prohibits sexual harassment and sexual assault nondisclosure agreements;
  • Act 40 expands the Hawaii Family Leave Law to include care for grandchildren and clarifies the definition of "sibling"; and
  • Act 51 abbreviates the lookback period for criminal convictions.

In its Highlights of Bills after Veto Deadline, HEC provides members a deeper discussion on these new laws and how they may impact the workforce.
