Bonnie Pang has been named President and CEO of the Hawaii Employers Council. She will work closely with the organization’s board of governors to address the unique needs of Hawaii’s employers and direct the organization’s leadership and strategic planning. Her experience will be especially vital in helping Hawaii employers navigate a safe return to work, the revitalization of Hawaii’s workforce, and the growth and development that can make Hawaii’s employers among the best in the nation.
“Bonnie brings a wealth of relevant experience to the Hawaii Employers Council,” said Jim Alberts, SVP of Customer Service at Hawaiian Electric and Board Chairman, Hawaii Employers Council. “Our members look to us for guidance on cutting edge workplace best practices, and Bonnie is uniquely positioned to help them do just that. I am confident that her leadership at HEC will enhance the culture and performance of organizations across the state.”
Pang has more than 20 years of experience in employee benefits consulting. She comes to HEC from Atlas Insurance Agency, where she served as the senior vice president of benefits consulting. Prior to joining Atlas, Bonnie led Mercer’s health and welfare practice in Hawaii.
Pang succeeds Clayton Kamida, who served 16 years at HEC. “During his tenure, Clayton launched several new services that brought immense value to members,” said Alberts. “He positioned HEC as a strategic partner to Hawaii employers and helped them navigate a rapidly evolving legal landscape, develop thriving workforces, and served as a true advocate for members.”
“The last year has shown the strength and resiliency of Hawaii, its people, and its employers,” said Pang. “As Hawaii and the world emerge from this pandemic, we can leverage what we’ve learned to embrace new business practices, enhance our workforce, and grow Hawaii’s employers. HEC has stood with Hawaii’s employers for seven decades, through wars, recessions, and global crises. Now we stand together to build a stronger future rooted in our past experiences and the opportunities that lie ahead.”
Pang received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Redlands. Her belief in innovation in workplace excellence led her to implement an in-house wellness program at Atlas that became a model for other employers. She currently serves on the board of governors for the Pacific Club, Society of Human Resource Management Hawaii, the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii, and Child & Family Service, and as Past President of the Hawaii Association of Health Underwriters and the Punahou Alumni Association. She was also appointed by the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations to serve as one of five members on Hawaii’s Prepaid Health Care Advisory Council.
