We recently surveyed Hawaii Employers Council member companies to determine how they plan to address the October 1, 2022 Hawaii minimum wage increase, and how their business will be impacted. The survey was conducted between June 29 and July 6, 2022. A total of 76 member companies ranging from 2 to 2,600 employees participated in this Pulse Survey.

Other responses related to not having a set internal minimum wage, including setting base pay on factors such as market rate, the job, the individual, etc.
How do you plan to address the new minimum wage for your current employees?

Other responses included providing increases to employees prior to October 1, 2022.
How much of an increase do you plan to provide to employees earning above the minimum wage?

Other responses included increases between 2-3% and relying on market data.
When do you plan to provide increases for employees who are already paid more than the new minimum wage?

How do you anticipate the new minimum wage will impact your business?

Other responses included delaying certain actions such as hiring, raising pay, looking for other ways to cut costs, etc.
What is your primary concern with the minimum wage increase?

Other concerns included the overall impact to Hawaii's economy (including availability of jobs for unskilled/part-time workers) and being able to offer a competitive compensation & benefits package.
