Hawaii’s New Pay Transparency Law and Changes to the Equal Pay Law Are Now In Effect

Published Tuesday, January 2, 2024 12:00 pm

With the enactment of Act 203 on January 1, 2024, employers with fifty or more employees must include an hourly rate or salary range that reasonably reflects the actual expected compensation in certain external job listings.  In addition, employers (regardless of the number of employees) cannot discriminate between employees because of any protected category by paying wages to an employee at a rate less than the rate paid to other employees doing substantially similar work.

Hawaii Employers Council has compiled our members’ most frequently asked questions about Act 203. You can view those questions and our recommended best practices here. HEC members may contact their HR Consultant with questions on Act 203 or for more information about how the HEC team can assist members with strategic compensation initiatives.
